Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced that the state government has implemented a new minimum wage scheme, resulting in workers earning a minimum of N70,000 since January.

The governor emphasized that this initiative aims to support public officers and civil servants during these challenging times.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this disclosure during a state function, affirming that the wage allowance of N35,000 has been added to the salaries of those earning a minimum of N35,000 or more prior to the scheme’s implementation. As a result, affected workers have been receiving a salary of N70,000 or above since the beginning of the year.

To alleviate the current economic hardship faced by residents, the governor provided an update on the state’s intervention measures. He announced plans to distribute food items to 500,000 households in Lagos State through unions and local governments. Additionally, the governor introduced the ‘Ounje Eko’ initiative, which establishes 59 makeshift markets across the state’s 57 local government and local council development areas, ensuring accessible and affordable food supplies to citizens on a Sunday-Sunday basis.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to supporting the welfare of Lagos State workers and residents, doubling efforts to provide necessary assistance during these trying times.
