In a remarkable achievement, Covenant University has once again emerged as the best university in Nigeria, surpassing both the University of Ibadan (UI) and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

This accolade was bestowed upon Covenant University for the second consecutive time in the prestigious 2024 ranking by Times Higher Education.

According to the analysis of the latest rankings released on Thursday, the university, located in Ota, Ogun State, has joined the ranks of the top 1,000 universities globally. Its position at 801st in the world marks a significant milestone. Covenant University initially gained prominence in 2018 when it claimed the title of the best university in Nigeria and secured an impressive sixth place overall.

Following closely behind Covenant University is the University of Ibadan, securing the second spot on the list of the country’s best universities. Meanwhile, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has solidified its position in third place.

The World University ranking, which encompasses 1,904 universities from 108 countries and regions, serves as the basis for this evaluation. The ranking takes into account various performance indicators across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook. This comprehensive assessment is part of the newly implemented WUR 3.0 methodology.

In addition to the top-ranking institutions mentioned above, several other universities have also made their mark in Nigeria’s educational landscape. Noteworthy institutions include the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, the University of Benin, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Port Harcourt.
