A group of armed individuals carried out a brazen assault on a luxury bus at the Oke Ado Junction in Ijebu-mushin, along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway, resulting in the loss of personal belongings and the destruction of the vehicle.
The incident took place on Saturday as the passengers were en route to the southeast to celebrate Easter.
According to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the perpetrators, armed with cutlasses, targeted the bus which belonged to Ifesinachi Transport Limited. The assailants robbed the passengers before proceeding to set the bus ablaze. SP Odutola confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Chude Nnamdi shared a video on social media, featuring some of the affected passengers recounting their harrowing ordeal. One passenger revealed that they were traveling with Ifesinachi Motors when the criminals ambushed them in Ijebu Ode along the Ore-Benin Expressway. The attackers stripped some passengers half-naked and confined everyone inside the 59-seater luxury bus before setting it on fire. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but the passengers lost all their possessions, and some sustained injuries. Among the victims were children, and a few individuals suffered from machete wounds and broken limbs.
The incident serves as a chilling reminder of the security challenges faced by travelers on the Ogun highway. Authorities are urged to take swift action to apprehend the culprits and enhance security measures to safeguard the well-being of commuters.
