President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Extols Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s Accomplishment in Receiving the Esteemed Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership

In an expression of admiration and respect, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on being honored with the highly acclaimed Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership.

Dr. Adesina has now joined the ranks of distinguished past recipients of this prestigious award, which includes eminent personalities such as Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka; former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki; and renowned lawyer-educationist, Chief Afe Babalola.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made the announcement on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, emphasizing that President Tinubu commended Dr. Adesina for his visionary and laudable efforts in revolutionizing agriculture in Africa and ensuring food security across the continent.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the transformative growth enhancement schemes that Dr. Adesina introduced during his tenure as the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria, which have significantly impacted the agricultural value chains in the West African country.

Highlighting Dr. Adesina’s impeccable track record, unwavering integrity, and remarkable strides in leadership and development, particularly in the field of agriculture, the statement emphasized that his accomplishments have garnered global recognition and numerous prestigious accolades, including the World Food Prize in 2017.
