President Bola Tinubu, during his visit to Doha, Qatar, has expressed confidence in Nigerian youth, stating that they are educated, reliable, and proactive. He emphasized that the actions of a few should not overshadow the potential and abilities of the majority, who are eager to contribute to the development of both nations.
Tinubu made these remarks while attending the signing of seven crucial agreements between Nigeria and Qatar, held at the Presidential Palace in Dohahe signed agreements covered various areas of cooperation, including education, employment regulations, business councils, youth and sports, tourism, business events, and combating illicit trade in narcotics. The signing ceremony was attended by Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and officials from the Qatari government.
President Tinubu assured Qatar of Nigeria’s readiness to welcome investors, emphasizing the ongoing reforms aimed at fostering innovation, return on investments, and multiculturalism. He stated, “Our greatest strength is our people. Our strength lies in the capacity of Nigerian youths. They have energy, talent, and self-belief. They are quality partners for the Qatari industry.”
Tinubu commended Qatar for its remarkable developmental progress and expressed his desire to gain deeper insight into the country’s accomplishments. He acknowledged the short-term challenges Nigeria is facing but affirmed that the government is implementing the right solutions and is committed to serious business.
In response, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressed openness to President Tinubu’s investment push, highlighting the brilliance and hard work of the Nigerian people. He emphasized the need for collaborative follow-up efforts to ensure the success of the partnership. Sheikh Tamim promised to send a team of Qatari officials to Nigeria after Ramadan for further engagement.
President Tinubu appointed Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, as the leader of the government team responsible for engaging with Qatari authorities in identifying and implementing investment opportunities.
During the bilateral discussions, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, presented an overview of Nigeria’s high-grade minerals, including lithium, and highlighted the potential for local mineral processing and value-additive industries in the country.
The Nigerian delegation attending the ceremony included several ministers from key sectors, such as finance, solid minerals development, health and social welfare, trade, industry and investment, and petroleum resources. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Special Adviser on Energy, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, were also present.
The upcoming visit of the Qatari delegation to Nigeria signifies the commitment of both countries to advancing their bilateral agreements and exploring further investment opportunities.
