In a heartfelt gesture, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, presented a cheque of N20 million to the widow of Sergeant D.F. Ekemughan, an esteemed Nigerian Air Force officer. Sergeant Ekemughan tragically lost his life as a result of injuries sustained from an explosion at the NAF Base in Port Harcourt back in December 2023.

The governor, unable to quantify the true value of Ekemughan’s life, emphasized that the monetary aid served as a symbol of his unwavering commitment to the well-being of security personnel and their families. Representing Governor Fubara, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, expressed his condolences and delivered a message of support to the grieving widow.

In an official statement released by the Head of the Press Unit in the SSG’s office, Juliana Masi, Governor Fubara’s remarks were shared. He stated, “We are here to let you know that we share in this sorrowful process with you. As a leader to your children, you must remain strong and embrace the realities of life. God expects you to shoulder this responsibility.”

Acknowledging the invaluable service rendered by the late Sergeant Ekemughan, the Rivers State Government urged his widow to find solace in her faith, honor her husband’s memory, and nurture her children to become exemplary citizens of Nigeria.

Air Commodore A. Idris, the Commander of the 115 Special Operations Group at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt, provided further insight into the circumstances surrounding Sergeant Ekemughan’s demise. According to Air Commodore Idris, the officer tragically succumbed to injuries sustained from a secondary explosion while dutifully carrying out his service within the base.
