In a tragic incident, a police inspector and two other individuals lost their lives in a recent Boko Haram attack on the community of Kukareta in Borno State. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, has once again highlighted the ongoing threat of terrorism in the region.
The attack took place in Kukareta, located in the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. The terrorists targeted a makeshift camp accommodation and set it ablaze, resulting in the death of a police inspector and two civilians.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, believed to be Boko Haram fighters, also shot and killed two civilians. They further set ablaze the vehicle of the district head and made off with a Hilux vehicle belonging to the civilian Joint Task Force operating in the community.
The incident occurred at 10:33 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. The attackers not only caused loss of life but also inflicted damage and destruction in the community. Homes were looted, and food supplies were stolen before the attackers set them on fire.
The ongoing threat of terrorism and attacks by Boko Haram remains a significant concern for the Nigerian military and the safety of its citizens. This attack follows a similar incident that took place just five days prior in Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai LGA, where four police officers were killed.
During an assessment visit to the scene, the vehicle of the Commander Sector 2 North-East Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai accidentally detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion damaged the commander’s vehicle and injured the driver, but the commander and his radio operator escaped unhurt.
