Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand expressed his admiration for Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the AFCON 2023. The South African team faced a tough challenge as they played the final minutes of the second half extra time with only 10 players after Grant Kekana received a red card for fouling Terem Moffi, who was on his way to scoring.

In response to Nigeria’s hard-fought win, Ferdinand took to his social media handle to share a photo of himself holding an old Nigerian jersey. The Nigerian team will return to action on Sunday as they face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final match. This showdown will be a rematch of their group-stage encounter, which was won 1-0 by Jose Peseiro’s men.

Meanwhile, the Ivorian team secured their place in the final by defeating DR Congo 1-0 in the second semi-final. This marks their first appearance in the AFCON final since 2015.
