In a recent session, the Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed the appointment of five out of six commissioner-nominees put forward by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The nominees underwent a thorough screening process during Tuesday’s plenary, and the lawmakers approved their appointments.
Among the confirmed nominees are Kayode Ajulo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Razaq Obe, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, Mr. Akinwumi Sowore, and Mr. Oseni Oyeniyi. Unfortunately, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, the sixth nominee, was unable to attend the session and will be screened at a later date.
The House Speaker, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, who also serves as the chairman of the House Selection Committee, noted that Mrs. Isaac’s absence was unavoidable and assured that she would be screened in due course. The confirmation of the other five nominees came after a report presented by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Abayomi Akinruntan, who recommended their appointments following a thorough screening process.
During the plenary, the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion for the confirmation of the nominees, which was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West 2. The Speaker congratulated the commissioners-designate and encouraged them to give their best in serving the state. He also expressed the House’s commitment to supporting the executive in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
Governor Aiyedatiwa assumed office as the substantive Governor of Ondo State on December 27, 2023, following the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Subsequently, several cabinet members resigned, and on January 24, the Governor dissolved the entire cabinet as part of a reorganization process.
