In a bid to alleviate poverty and enhance the standard of living for women, girls, and youths, the Lagos State Government, under the auspices of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has successfully empowered 250 residents through a comprehensive four-week short-term skills acquisition program.

The program, which was held at Ojo Square in the Somolu Local Government Area of the state, was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the Lagos State Health Management Authority. It aimed to equip individuals from various communities across Lagos State with practical skills to meet their economic demands and overcome challenges.

At the graduation ceremony for the program participants, Commissioner Cecilia Dada emphasized the government’s commitment to uplift the lives of indigent, vulnerable, internally displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities. She highlighted the importance of addressing factors such as illiteracy, unemployment, teenage pregnancies, and cultural barriers that hinder women and youths from realizing their full potential.

The training, which was conducted simultaneously across five centers in the state, covered a wide range of skills. Participants received training in events decoration and flower arrangement, fabric stoning, tie and dye, catering, soap, pomadeand insecticide production, hair braiding and wig making, throw pillows, and duvet making, among others.

During the ceremony, a goodwill message was delivered by Mr. Olatunji Rotimi, the Head of the Business unit at the Lagos State Health Management Authority, on behalf of Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, the Permanent Secretary. He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support for the program, which aligns with his T.H.E M.E.S Plus Agenda.

The successful completion of this empowerment program marks a significant step towards reducing poverty and empowering vulnerable members of society in Lagos State. The government’s dedication to providing practical skills and support to residents, regardless of their social positions, demonstrates its commitment to fostering economic growth and social development.

With the acquisition of these valuable skills, the empowered residents are now better equipped to pursue sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the overall progress of their communities. The Lagos State Government remains steadfast in its mission to create an inclusive and prosperous society for all its citizens.
