Lagos, August 20, 2024 – A 58-year-old man died in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on Monday after reportedly engaging in a 19-day fast.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin stating that the deceased’s younger brother reported the death to the Alagbado Police Division at around 7 pm on Monday.

According to the brother, his sibling passed away while undergoing a prolonged period of fasting without consuming any food or water.

“No foul play is suspected,” Hundeyin stated. “The family has requested to take possession of the body for burial.”

While the cause of death remains unconfirmed, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with prolonged fasting, particularly without proper medical supervision.
