Minna – Gunmen have brutally murdered 13 farmers in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State, sparking outrage and condemnation from state officials.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, has left the community reeling in shock and grief.
In a statement released on Thursday, Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba described the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious, and callous.” He expressed deep distress at the “barbaric and vicious act” perpetrated against innocent civilians.
“It is utterly appalling and deeply disturbing to see people inflict such violence on their fellow human beings,” Garba stated. “Our hearts go out to the grieving families, the residents of Anguwan Mai-Giro, and the entire Shiroro community.”
The deputy governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to restoring peace and security across Niger. He urged security agencies to remain steadfast in their efforts to combat criminal elements, assuring them of the government’s full support.
This latest attack comes amidst a wave of violence targeting farmers in Nigeria’s northern region, exacerbating the country’s food security crisis. In March, bandits abducted over 20 women during an attack on a market in the Madaka community of Rafi LGA in Niger State.
The relentless attacks on innocent civilians have raised concerns about the effectiveness of security measures and the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of insecurity in the region.
